I've managed to make my first cd/ISO-images with winbuilder, and they work just beautifully, I must say!

I've now come to the step where I want my images to be booted from pxe, just like my BARTPE-iso.

I've made an iso with this content:

Directory of C:\backup1\RamPE
09/23/2008 10:59 PM 2,048 BOOTSECT.BIN
09/24/2008 10:50 AM 150 WINNT.SIF
09/24/2008 10:37 AM 268,435,456 WINPE.IMG
09/24/2008 01:03 PM <DIR> I386
(The WINPE.IMG is a ramdisk, i hope)

Directory of C:\backup1\RamPE\i386
03/24/2005 08:42 PM 47,772 NTDETECT.COM
03/24/2005 08:33 PM 298,096 SETUPLDR.BIN

content of WINNT.SIF:
[SetupData]
BootDevice = "ramdisk(0)"
BootPath = "\i386\System32\"
OsLoadOptions = "/noguiboot /fastdetect /minint /rdexportashd /rdpath=WINPE.IMG"

When I try to boot from this iso (or via pxe), i get a bluescreen:
"An initialization failure occured while attempting to boot from the RAM disk"

""" STOP: 0x000000F8 (0x00000002,0x00000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

So basicaly what I want is this:
I have a working isoimage buildt from w2003-server SP1. I now want to make a cdimage (or hd-image) wich I may boot from pxe
I do also have a working BARTPE iso which works with pxe-booting already, so I think my pxe-setup is ok.

so where do I go now?

Hello Einar,
please check your ramdisk.sys on PE.
Dont use any Xp Version, use ramdisk.sys from win 2003 SP1/SP2.

Near smile.gif, but not quite accurate. wink.gif

Use SP1 (or possibly R2, NOT SP2):

@Einar
Check the whole referenced thread, pay particular attention to rdexportashd and rdimageoffset settings (if needed) and to the "Matryoschka" booting.
The WinPE.img that you are using should be a "super-floppy" or "partition" image, i.e. with bootsector at sector 1, or you will have to use an appropriate rdimageoffset parameter.
How did you build the image?

I got it working tonight.
I used bootsdi-options and a script from signature krokodox. I then got a error in line 619 (in section [ScsiClass]) of txtsetup.sif, regarding wrong ramdrive. I changed this line, by mounting the sdiboot-image, and replace it with:
ramdisk=ramdisk.sys

saved the image and booted from it via pxe.
(to make a iso for cd-booting I had to issue the misofs-command manually)

Beautiful!

Thank you everyone who has contributed to winbuilder and this forum.
also thanks to http://www.911cd.net and http://ubcd4win.com/forum

And goodbye to Bart. You've served me well!

Also: I now understand the Matryoschka reference I've come across in this forum.

I will try to summarize my experience and post it later this week.

Yes, please do, we do miss some reports on pxe/tftp booting.
