Emachine T5026, 1GB+512MB RAM, Intel Pentium 43.06 GHz, 350GB HDD(1 came with the machine, the other is new), XP PRO and 2000, new 400W PSU.
Now for my problem, about 2 months ago, one day while booting to the desktop, my system just frozed at the Windows Logo, rebooted several time to see if it might reach the desktop but no luck. Since then, I have added more memory, added a new HDD, changed out the PSU, tried 3 different boot CD (my floppy is external, so I can't boot from the floppy). Have visited over 25 sites trying to get info and help for my problem, no luck. A friend reccommend I come to this site, he swears by this site so here I am hoping you folks can help me get back up and running. Hope I provided enough infor, if not, let me know and I will provide additional info. Thank you all in advance for the help.

So, BOTH the Windows 2000 and the Windows XP install freeze at their bootlogo?

Have you tried adding a /BOOTLOG switch to your BOOT.INI ?:
QUOTE
/BOOTLOG
Causes Windows to write a log of the boot to the file %SystemRoot%\Ntbtlog.txt.

and/or /NOGUIBOOT ?:
QUOTE
/NOGUIBOOT
Instructs Windows not to initialize the VGA video driver responsible for presenting bitmapped graphics during the boot process. The driver is used to display boot progress information, so disabling it will disable the ability of Windows to show this information.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963892.aspx

Have you tried Safe Mode?

Have you tried Recovery Console (and CHKDISK from within it)?

Can you link to the site/forums/methods you already tried (and that failed) in order to exclude what has already been tried?

tried 3 different boot CD

Which ones?
What did you use each of them for?
What each of them resulted with?

Yes, both 2000 and XP freezes up at the Wondows Logo and I tried to install a fresh XP onto the new HDD and it also freezes up during the install.
No, I have not tried to add a BOOTLOG switch or doing a NOGUIBOOT, to be honest, I'm not to familiar on during that and don't want to be doing stuff I'm not sure about.
It will not let me boot to Safe Mode, when I try to go into Safe Mode, all I get is alot of DOS scripts (looks like some sort of DIR commands and then it freezes and I have to reboot.
I can link into all the sites, they are in a folder in my mail, as I go too a site, I send the site to mail so I can keep the sites in a folder.
The following 3 sites is where I got the BOOT CD:
http://www.howtohaven.com/system/createwin...setupdisk.shtml
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Downright_p...e_downloads.htm
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Hope this helps.

The prize is totally undeserved.

Would care to explain this:

That's where I found it and found strange to see it placed on the community section.

NO problem whatsoever smile.gif, we are only trying to abide by Rule #12:
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?act=boardrules
QUOTE
12. SMILE! cheers.gif Life is tough, we all know that, when you enter this board, it will be appreciated that you leave your personal problems behind, asking and replyinq questions or however exchanging informations with a "positive" attitude, TAKE IT EASY thumbup.gif and enjoy your stay here.

Back to the problem:
if BOTH your installs became "blotched" at the same time, it means that something they "share" went beserk.

Thus we can exclude the "usual suspects":
  • virii
  • conflicts of some Windows Update with the hardware
  • new service installed conflicting with something else

Possible culprits IMHO are then:
  • Filesystem (if both installs share the same "system" partition)
  • RAM
  • Motherboard
  • Disk drive (unlikely)

Do you have a XP install CD, possibly slipstreamed to the same Service Pack level then the installed XP?
Or however a 2K or XP install CD?
(please note that the 2K won't be of much use if your HD is bigger than the 137 Gb LBA-48 barrier)

The normal troubleshooting procedure is the following:
  • remove, disconnect disable, ANYTHING you won't need for the tests, i.e. keep ONLY Video, keyboard, mouse, 1 HD, 1 CD/DVD) like:
  • in BIOS disable ANYTHING, load "SAFE BIOS" settings (after having jolted down current settings)
  • remove (physically disconnect) all RAM but a single stick
  • remove (physically disconnect) all drives but the main HD and 1 CD/DVD
  • disable Sound card, network card (if they are on separate boards, physically remove them)
  • disconnect ANY external device, keep ONLY keyboard and mouse (and it would be advised, if the PC supports them and you have a couple spare ones to use PS/2 as opposed to USB thingies)

Then create THIS bootCD, UBCD:
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Now, first thing would be to boot from the XP install disk and run Recovery Console:
http://commandwindows.com/recovery.htm
from it run a
CODE
chkdsk C: /p

if any error is detected, report it/them.

If the chkdsk reports no error, boot the UBCD and from it run the memory tests.

If no errors are found, and ONLY IF your install XP disk is slipstreamed to the SAME SP as the installed system, run from it the Repair install:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Report any doubt/question you may have BEFORE attempting anything you are not fully sure about.
