I can't explain how that happen but if I did something wrong, I apologize.
NO problem whatsoever

, we are only trying to abide by Rule #12:

12. SMILE!

Life is tough, we all know that, when you enter this board, it will be appreciated that you leave your personal problems behind, asking and replyinq questions or however exchanging informations with a "positive" attitude, TAKE IT EASY

and enjoy your stay here.
Back to the problem:
if BOTH your installs became "blotched" at the same time, it means that something they "share" went beserk.
Thus we can exclude the "usual suspects":
- virii
- conflicts of some Windows Update with the hardware
- new service installed conflicting with something else
Possible culprits IMHO are then:
- Filesystem (if both installs share the same "system" partition)
- RAM
- Motherboard
- Disk drive (unlikely)
Do you have a XP install CD, possibly slipstreamed to the same Service Pack level then the installed XP?
Or however a 2K or XP install CD?
(please note that the 2K won't be of much use if your HD is bigger than the 137 Gb LBA-48 barrier)
The normal troubleshooting procedure is the following:
- remove, disconnect disable, ANYTHING you won't need for the tests, i.e. keep ONLY Video, keyboard, mouse, 1 HD, 1 CD/DVD) like:
- in BIOS disable ANYTHING, load "SAFE BIOS" settings (after having jolted down current settings)
- remove (physically disconnect) all RAM but a single stick
- remove (physically disconnect) all drives but the main HD and 1 CD/DVD
- disable Sound card, network card (if they are on separate boards, physically remove them)
- disconnect ANY external device, keep ONLY keyboard and mouse (and it would be advised, if the PC supports them and you have a couple spare ones to use PS/2 as opposed to USB thingies)
Then create THIS bootCD, UBCD:
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/Now, first thing would be to boot from the XP install disk and run Recovery Console:
http://commandwindows.com/recovery.htmfrom it run a
CODE
chkdsk C: /p
if any error is detected, report it/them.
If the chkdsk reports no error, boot the UBCD and from it run the memory tests.
If no errors are found, and ONLY IF your install XP disk is slipstreamed to the SAME SP as the installed system, run from it the Repair install:
