Hi,I have a Gateway MX7515 laptop.The factory image is present,but seems hidden.No option at boot to use F+button to do a system recovery.How can I either restore the F+ option to do a factory restore or maybe make this partition visible in order to do a factory restore of the system?Hope I am understood,if not feel free to ask any questions.Thanks in advance.oldtrigger
P.S.Hard drive is divided into 2 partitions(C and D)The recovery partition is C and says protected by:PC Angel

Hello,
sorry to bring up this old thread
but this software Pcangle is used to recover most PC and laptops today
including all HP, Gateway,Dell,Emachine,Advent etc.
===================
Manual PC Angel System Recovery

Want to recover a machine which has a “PC Angel” recovery partition, but the MBR is hosed so you

can’t recover with “F10? like the manual states?(or ALT +F10 ?)

Boot the system with KNOPPIX (or any other recovery disk with a partition editor)(or partedmagic

boot CD),
http://partedmagic.com/download.html

then use fdisk or parted magic to change the partition with ID 12 (“Compaq Diagnostics”) to ID 7 (“NTFS”)

and mark it bootable. Then reboot and voila, recovery boots.

After recovering, you’ll have to change the partition table back to how it was before, because the

recovery software will not fix this for you. However, it will fix the MBR so recovering with F10

will be functional again after this.
=================================

I did not understand the bit about ID 12 and ID 7 I think he means unhide partition and then flag it as 'boot' (active).
conclusion:

HP laptops:
F10 = BIOS setup
F11 = recovery utility (if it exists)or is it ALT+F10 ??
boot with any linux disk Ubuntu (live CD)
or Parted Magic Boot CD

http://partedmagic.com/download.html

and use disk Parted the partitioning tool
right clik on the partition
to set the flag of recovery Partition as active .
also make sure it is not Hidden .
reboot
and it should boot to recovery partition
recover the system
when finished it also repairs the F10(or is it F11 )option
reboot with linux Disk and Untick the Boot flag from recovery partition.
Note:
if system is bootable you can back up and then
go to start> right click on mycomputer >manage
choose disk managment right click on the recovery partition there and set it

as active
reboot
etc.

regards Ben

Yes, but not necessarily the partitionis originally 07 (NTFS) it may be FAT32, though changing it to a "wrong" type shouldn't make any harm, it would be btter to check the partition bootsector.

Hello again,
Last time I downloaded Partedmagic boot cd was 5 or 6 years ago
http://partedmagic.com/download.html
after i posted the link here I thought I down load the new ISO version 5.2
to see what is it like
first thing I noticed was that its size had increased from 35 MB to 120 MB
but I was surprised at the power of its wirless networking ability .
without adding any drivers it found all the wirless routers in the area .
and if there was any open it connected to it by just enter and enter on key board .
with my own router it asked for the key.
it connected once but had problem next time i booted.
if you have not down loaded it yet do it and have FUN .
I must say Linux has come a long way congragulations to all concerned .
of course you still got the powerfull Parted disk partitioner .
you also got cloning linux ghost and also cd burning software.

Regards Ben
