Hello,
sorry to bring up this old thread
but this software Pcangle is used to recover most PC and laptops today
including all HP, Gateway,Dell,Emachine,Advent etc.
===================
Manual PC Angel System RecoveryWant to recover a machine which has a “PC Angel” recovery partition, but the MBR is hosed so you
can’t recover with “F10? like the manual states?(or ALT +F10 ?)
Boot the system with KNOPPIX (or any other recovery disk with a partition editor)(or partedmagic
boot CD),
http://partedmagic.com/download.htmlthen use fdisk or parted magic to change the partition with ID 12 (“Compaq Diagnostics”) to ID 7 (“NTFS”)
and mark it bootable. Then reboot and voila, recovery boots.
After recovering, you’ll have to change the partition table back to how it was before, because the
recovery software will not fix this for you. However, it will fix the MBR so recovering with F10
will be functional again after this.
=================================
I did not understand the bit about ID 12 and ID 7 I think he means
unhide partition and then flag it as 'boot' (active).conclusion:
HP laptops:
F10 = BIOS setup
F11 = recovery utility (if it exists)or is it ALT+F10 ??
boot with any linux disk Ubuntu (live CD)
or Parted Magic Boot CD
http://partedmagic.com/download.htmland use disk Parted the partitioning tool
right clik on the partition
to set the flag of recovery Partition as active .
also make sure it is not Hidden .
reboot
and it should boot to recovery partition
recover the system
when finished it also repairs the F10(or is it F11 )option
reboot with linux Disk and Untick the Boot flag from recovery partition.
Note:
if system is bootable you can back up and then
go to start> right click on mycomputer >manage
choose disk managment right click on the recovery partition there and set it
as active
reboot
etc.
