Hello, as member of the ShadowProject I am pleased to announce the release of our ShadowPE now in public beta.

This is not a fork of the win7pe nor the VistaPE developed here on boot-land. More info on the project located at:

http://shadowproj.net

EDIT:

This is a Public Beta Release, the forums will be open later today due to a server error out of our hands.

Very good work.

But would you post some screenshots of the project and finished result?

Also, please post a new topic on this section to allow a more formal presentation of your project on the projects section: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showforum=50

would be very interested in being a tester for this new project

tried to signup at your website, but when registering keep getting following error:-

"Error sending mail: RCPT TO: error (550 relay not permitted) "

Perhaps you should include some contact details on your website so people can actually respond to your request for developers, testers etc

Added to the thread title subtitle:
QUOTE
ShadowPE now in public beta

Since I have nothing better to do today, I would like to understand how this:
QUOTE
---[ WinBuilder License Agreement ]---

This license applies to "WinBuilder.exe",
wich will be refered as "this software" in the
following distribution conditions and license terms.

-- Distribution

This Software is freeware, however remains
the property of the Author.

This Software can only be distributed or reproduced
in the original form and should not be modified in any way.

You may distribute or reproduce the Software freely for
personal and non-commercial uses only, provided you
previously contact the Author by E-mail and receive
explicit authorization to the distribution or reproduction.

Commercial distribution is subject to the author terms
and is only permited under the conditions imposed
by the author for each specific distributor, in wich the
rights to remove the given authorization at any time
are always retained by the author himself and will apply
to all present, previous and future versions of this software.

Free and commercial authorization to distribute this Software
can terminate at any given moment if the author considers
that the previously authorized person or organization are
using or distributing this software under conditions
not accepted by the author.

The termination of an authorization is extended to all
present, previous and future versions of this software.

matches with this:
http://shadowproj.net/2009/07/official-pro...um-release.html
QUOTE
Requirements:

- Winbuilder (We recommend the latest version always be used! This includes BETA\RC versions) We Host our own version of WB with the required modifications to download our project.

and expecially with this:
http://shadowproj.net/
QUOTE
We are also an OpenSource Community. What does that Mean? Our services are released under licenses that allow our users to edit our source for their needs without having to purchase a license from us. OpenSource means freedom of information! Not free from cost. While we do provide free downloads to most of our products, we do not allow our users to modify the product are redistribute it as their own. If you are interested in doing this or forking from our Product please contact us.

Opensource means freedom, not freedom of information only, nor freedom from cost only.

This is NOT:
QUOTE
we do not allow our users to modify the product

"open" nor "freedom"

This sentence, does not stand in English, however:
QUOTE
we do not allow our users to modify the product are redistribute it as their own

If you mean that the product can be modified and redistributed as long as:
  • modified sources are available
  • Authorship of original is maintained

it needs to be reworded, and it would be "OSI" compatible:
http://www.opensource.org/
http://www.opensource.org/docs/osd

But Winbuilder, while Freeware, is NOT OpenSource, so the PE project CANNOT anyway be defined "Open Source" as it's "base engine" is not.

To make clear as much as possible the reason of the above comments:
as I see it you can sell (or give away for free) apples calling them apples, NOT sell (or give away for free) apples calling them oranges.

NOTICE TO ALL:

Due to the same error that prevented our forums from opening yesterday the actual public beta was mistakenly removed from our system. We are working hard to contact the service provider and fix our hosting issues asap, and post the proper files.

Also registration for the site has had a few errors due to a perl issue and an issue with our account permissions with our provider. This is currently being fixed. Please register on the forum (Forum being fixed at time of this message).

Notice about our front page, the terms listed there are are general for our projects and specific per-project terms have not been posted as current PE release is public beta and is free to modification until final release. Also terms posted there are subject to change, we are aware that they should be reworded and there is a topic open in our forum for this. Also we have not modified ANY of the source to WB, the only modification made was to the settings to include our server, this is the same modification you would make if you already had WB installed and from our understanding is not against WB's license.

Maybe it it would have been better to setup and test everything including proper wording before announcing. wink.gif

Well, as above, I don't see why you publish something that you already know needs to be properly reworded. unsure.gif

And again, though I am sure that Nuno is looking at the project with interest and most probably has nothing against your use of the Winbuilder Engine, I will re-quote the distribution license for Winbuilder:
QUOTE
-- Distribution

This Software is freeware, however remains
the property of the Author.

This Software can only be distributed or reproduced
in the original form and should not be modified in any way.

You may distribute or reproduce the Software freely for
personal and non-commercial uses only, provided you
previously contact the Author by E-mail and receive
explicit authorization to the distribution or reproduction
.

Unless you have an explicit authorization from Nuno, you CANNOT distribute it, modified or unmodified.

Unless you have an explicit ADDITIONAL authorization from Nuno, you cannot distribute it modified in any way.

If you have such authorization(s), it would be nice if you cite this fact, with something like "by explicit permission by the Author" or a similar sentence.

Free, freedom, and Open Source are "heavy" words, mostly about the mutual respect towards people, ideas, opinions and work, one has to be very accurate when using them, and "founding" an "Open Source" project upon proprietary code, apparently breaking BTW also it's redistribution license it's not the best approach in the world, IMHO.

To further clear the absolute friendliness smile.gif with which these remarks are made , you came here saying:
QUOTE (fictional_Flyboarder)
look at this basket full of apples

And of course someone replied:
QUOTE (fictional_reply)
actually what you are showing is an oranges box !

and someone more daring, who actually looked at it from a closer point of view:
QUOTE (fictional_reply)
and it is empty !
